1.  Only pregnant women get stretch marks.

While pregnancy increases the likelihood that a women will get stretch marks, they are not only limited to pregnanct women.  Teens who have a growth spurt, people with rapid weight gain, body builders and so on can all develop stretch mark scars too.

2. Stretch marks are specific to women.

3. Lose weight and your marks will disappear.

The damage is already done to your skin so losing weight doesn’t mean they will disappear on their own.  They may fade or look less red and angry if you lose weight but it doesn’t mean you can leave your skin to fix itself.

4.     You can’t prevent stretch marks.

There are things you can do to reduce the chances of developing stretch marks.  Some of these are following a healthy balanced diet to provide the skin with the vitamins and minerals it needs, keeping your body hydrated and following a good skin care regime every day.

5.  Surgery is the best stretch marks removal treatment.

Surgery is not the only option to treat stretch marks.  People underestimate the simple lifestyle changes that can have a dramatic effect on the look and feel of their skin like dietary changes and applying a good moisturiser.
